Counselor – Wraparound Program

Position Description:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Youth Programs, the Wraparound Counsellor provides clinical counselling to youth aged 13-18, who are at risk of engaging in criminal activities, and to their caregivers. Closely working with Wraparound Youth Workers, the Wraparound Counsellor monitors the progress of clients, develops and modifies counselling intervention strategies appropriate to the clients, and provides advocacy and referrals to MOSAIC services and other community services if necessary. The Wraparound Counsellor will work closely the partner agencies including the Vancouver Police Department and the Vancouver School Board, as well as other community partners. The Wraparound Counsellor works directly with youth workers, consultants, funders and staff to help meet program goals, quality assurance standards and provide overall administrative support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working with at-risk youth and their caregivers in a counselling field
  • Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (MA or M.Ed with RCC) or Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW with RCSW)
  • Knowledge in Mental health and Addiction in general, mental health of immigrants and refugees, impact of racism and discrimination, child and youth development, attachment theory, family dynamics and systems, culturally-oriented parenting strategies, youth justice and violence, abuse and trauma
  • Knowledge in community services and resources for youth and settlement in the Lower Mainland;
  • Skills in youth counselling and family counselling, crisis intervention, cultural competency, time management and data management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Empathetic, patient, collaborative, organized, flexible, adaptable

Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of the school system

  • Working with at-risk youth in a school environment is an asset

Other Requirements:

  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check

  • Flexibility in work hours according to youth and their families’ availability that may include evenings and weekends.
