We’re thrilled to be launching a series of talks on ethics and sustainability in business. This series is presented in partnership with our Bachelor of Management (BAM) undergrad degree completion program, which focuses on socially and environmentally responsible management. The BAM program as an extension of our values and community approach already ingrained in our successful Master of Education and Master of Counselling programs. The Sustainability Series is a further extension of that approach.

On May 30 Emily Briggs, Marketing Strategist, Western Canada, Bullfrog Power, will co-present with Lauren Archibald, Marketing Manager, Ethical Bean Coffee. They will address the topic of sustainability communications, the value of third party certifications, and the B Corp assessment, with a focus on the environmental category. Both Bullfrog Power  and Ethical Bean are B Corp certified, meaning they have met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

On June 20, Adrienne Uy, COO/CFO of SPUD.CA, will speak about the values of sustainability as a strategic pillar in SPUD’s competitive advantage. The Company’s vision is to change the world one bite at a time. Adrienne will talk about the challenges of achieving sustainability at scale and with financial due diligence. SPUD is committed to reducing food waste and has the lowest (0.5%) food waste of any grocery store in Canada. Food waste is a huge problem and almost $31 billion worth of food is wasted in Canada every year. Emily Briggs is a Marketing Strategist at Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider and a founding Canadian B Corporation. Emily works with Bullfrog’s business customers in Western Canada, from Earnest Ice Cream to Granville Island Brewing, helping them finds ways to leverage their renewable energy purchase and communicate how they’re taking action on climate disruption.

Lauren Archibald is the Marketing Manager at Ethical Bean Coffee. Lauren inspires consumers to drive positive social and environmental change through their daily cup of coffee. Ethical Bean is a leading, Vancouver based roaster of 100% Fairtrade certified, organic coffee which has grown into an international success. Fostering relationships with B Corp, Fairtrade, and other key partners, Lauren is always seeking new ways to collaborate and bring the Ethical Bean story to life.

Previously working as the Western Marketing Manager at Bullfrog Power, Lauren engaged brands such as MEC, Rocky Mountain Soap, and Deloitte to leverage their support of renewable energy through innovative marketing activations.

With a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University, Lauren is a known connector and is armed with delicious coffee, contagious energy, and a passion for adventure on the beautiful West Coast and beyond.

Adrienne Uy has served in numerous capacities since joining SPUD.CA in 2010, and is currently the COO/CFO. She has extensive operations and retail management experience in addition to a strong financial background. Adrienne was a former VP at Jones Soda, where she was responsible for e-commerce, distribution and logistics. Adrienne has also held positions at the Starbucks Coffee Company in the Financial Policies & Compliance, Financial Reporting and Corporate Accounting Groups, and as the Corporate Controller for 3TIER, a global, renewable energy information-to-decision technology leader with global offices. Adrienne holds an MBA from Seattle University and is CPA designated
