Maureen’s background includes over 20 years of working with children, youth, and families as a teacher, administrator, and elementary counsellor in the public school system. This experience grounds her belief that all clients have the strengths and ability to make positive changes in their lives. She has worked extensively with families, couples, and individuals dealing with disabilities, depression, anxiety, acculturation, divorce, life transitions, trauma, and sexual orientation. In counselling, she practices a client-centred approach to therapy and has additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Hypnosis, Narrative Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Maureen is also currently District Principal of Student Support Services for School District 45 (West Vancouver) and has a small private counselling practice. Her SD45 portfolio includes the areas of Special Education, Critical Incident Response, Violent Threat Risk Assessment, Suicide Risk Assessment, Child Abuse Prevention Education, Comprehensive School Health, and Self-Regulation. She believes that as educators and counsellors, we have a moral imperative to improve issues of social justice. She works with staff to increase knowledge, awareness, and practices to make our schools safer and more inclusive for the LGBTQ+ members of our school communities.
She is also a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors as well as a SafeTALK trainer.
