Robynn Strikwerda,MC

Associate program Director/Internship Coordinator

Working with people is my calling and I am grateful to have a career that feeds my soul and challenges me to bring my best self to my work daily. I have had the opportunity to work with individuals from all walks of life and this has been a gift as it has pushed me to truly embody what it means to listen, support, and empower. It has been an incredible journey working with City University of Seattle in Edmonton for the last two years. As the Associate Program Director and Internship Coordinator I have had the opportunity to guide students as they begin their transition from student to counsellor, build relationships with community partners who welcome our students at their sites, and support faculty instructors during the practicum process. Additionally, as a practicing counsellor in the community I am honored to walk alongside people as they achieve personal outcomes that nourish their spirit.

 Research

I am interested in contributing to an ongoing push for social justice and advocacy for those whose voices have been momentarily silenced.  Currently, I am involved in a research project focusing on building capacity in our community to prevent sexual exploitation in youth.

 Teaching

The classroom is my first love and it is where I began my career!  As an educator, I believe in the philosophy of ‘do with, not for’ and therefore approach teaching from a mentorship lens.  My goal is to inspire my students to cultivate an ongoing curiosity about what they are learning and to expose them to experiences that will foster both compassion and understanding for those whom they will eventually be counselling. I believe in supporting all learning styles, holding student to the high standards as set out by the University, challenging students to grow and hone their academic ability, and also honoring the knowledge and skill that already bring into the classroom.
