Dr. Ian DeLong, MEd, PhD, RCC

Ian DeLong is an Area Counsellor with The Vancouver School Board. He has degrees in English Literature, Music, Education, and School Counselling and completed his PhD at Simon Fraser University in 2019. His doctoral thesis focussed on songs and their capacity to encapsulate archetypes and connect to lived experiences, essentially creating a soundtrack for our lived stories. Ian’s also done extensive research into songs and their therapeutic capacity in relation to narrative therapy. In his free-time he likes to cook and spend time with his husband, family, and friends and especially enjoys attending arts events and experiencing the culinary culture at any number of Vancouver’s great restaurants. He also loves to travel and spent his grade 12 year aboard a tall ship with a program called Class Afloat, where he travelled to ports of call in North America, Europe, Africa, South and Central America. As an adult, Ian has also travelled extensively and can now add Asia and Australia to his continental list. He is looking forward to future travels and immersing himself in culture as he attends arts events, museums, and partakes in culinary experiences on his travel adventures throughout the world.
