Eleonora Joensuu

Academic Program Director Master of Counselling Program in Vancouver

B.A, M.Ed, M.Ed – Counselling Psychology, Ph.D

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor working in private practice with a focus on adult and relationship counselling. I bring 9 years of teaching experience in Education and Counselling at the undergraduate and graduate levels, alongside 7 years of experience as a writing coach supporting students in their academic writing. I joined CityU as Associate Faculty and then stepped into a leadership role as an Associate Director, coordinating the part-time programs. I have recently taken on the role of Academic Program Director for the MC program in Vancouver. I have a passion for counsellor education, especially for supporting students in bridging theoretical and conceptual knowledge to practice contexts, and in supporting faculty to feel confident and effective in their teaching. I identify as a member of the queer community and am actively committed to the unlearning and learning needed for creating just and equitable societies and communities.

My doctoral research focused on the role of disgust experiences in social, relational, and emotional development and its impacts on relational ethics in the context of oppression and violence.
