Gillian McKirdy

Associate Faculty

Dr. Gillian McKirdy a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists, a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and a Certified EMDR Therapist. Gillian is a skilled therapist in child, family, and individual therapy. Gillian works in private practice with people seeking therapy for many reasons. Gillian has a special interest in individuals who have experienced developmental trauma which includes research and extensive work with individuals and families impacted by adoption. Gillian also works with individuals impacted by trauma at home and at work. Gillian is a proud City University graduate and Associate Faculty. Gillian started teaching graduate courses in counseling psychology in 2021, and she joined City University in 2023. She enjoys working with students as they progress through the program. 


Gillian is interested in developmental trauma, and particularly how this impacts adoptive, foster, and kinship families.

Gillian is a lifelong student, and through teaching and sharing her knowledge and skills, she values learning from all of those around her, including clients, colleagues, and students. She values collaboration with students and uses a varied approach to teaching to meet different learning styles.
