Shelby Leiding

Masters of Counselling Psychology

Faculty, Canadian Counselling Program

Shelby is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and holds a Masters of Counselling Psychology. She is currently completing her PhD in Developmental Psychology. Shelby specializes in working with children and youth with a variety of mental health and behavioral challenges. Shelby has experience working in community-based practices and intensive treatment settings. She works from a strengths-based lens and incorporates her training in the expressive arts, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the Neurosequential Model, and other modalities into her work. As a part-time faculty member in the Canadian Counseling Program at City University, Shelby utilizes her experience and creativity to enrich learning for students.


Shelby is currently completing her PhD in Developmental Psychology. Her research interests include complex developmental trauma and the factors that influence the development of children in care.


Shelby believes in preparing students with the clinical thinking and practical skills to successfully transition into the world of applied counselling and psychology. She provides students with hands-on learning opportunities to step outside of their comfort zone and integrate theory with practice.
