Financial Aid FAQs

This FAQ is intended for those students wishing to apply, maintain or repay Student Aid in the coming academic term. Please contact our team at FinAidCanada@cityu.edu for further details and to arrange for an appointment with our Financial Aid Advisor. 

What is the best way to contact our Financial Aid Team in Canada?

When reaching out to us it is important to include the following information at the end of your message for us to reply as quickly as possible:

  • Full name
  • Student ID
  • Program and Cohort
  • Province of Student Loan Funding

If you are unsure how to find your program Information or cohort, please review our academic calendar. This is very important to track your course load, credit schedule and track your applications for funding. If you are unsure of how to read the calendar please contact our Academic Advisors or Financial Aid Advisor.

British Columbia

StudentAid BC is for British Columbians who need help paying for their post-secondary education.

What is student financial assistant?

Students enrolled in eligible programs can apply for a variety of government-issued student financial assistance, including student loans and grants (non-repayable funding). We encourage students to explore the different financial resources available for them.
These forms of funding are offered to both full-time and part-time students.

What is considered full time studies?

BC Residents: students who are enrolled in at least 60% of a full-time course load, and in a student loan eligible program, are considered to be studying full-time. At CityU, this means a minimum of 12 credits per term.


*Note: students with a recognized permanent disability (who have been approved through StudentAid BC) must be enrolled in at least 40% of a full-time course load, a minimum of 6 to 8 credits per term.

AB Residents:

What is considered full time studies?

AB Residents: students who are enrolled in at least 60% of a full-time course load, and in a student loan eligible program, are considered to be studying full-time. At CityU for our Albertan Programs, this means a minimum of 6 credits per term

What is considered part-time studies?

AB Residents: students who are enrolled in a student loan eligible program and are Albertan residents in at least 3 credits per term at CityU, are considered to be studying part-time.
