Alternative Methods of Funding:

Bank Lines of Credit

Bank Lines of Credit:  lines of credit or student lines of credit a student will take out to supplement the shortfall. This depends on your credit score, your credit history etc. It is best to review your options either with an accountant or with a financial planner at your local bank

Sponsorship Opportunities

Some students seek out sponsorships through nonprofit organizations (like the Canadian Mental Health Organization) and write letters of intent to see if a nonprofit has a sponsorship budget. It’s like writing an essay about how helping your education will help you give back to the community. A database of non-profit organizations can be found through local government websites.

If you are working at the moment or have a union, some students will inquire with them for sponsorship as well.

Indigenous Funding

Please connect with our Indigenous Campus Advisor or the Financial Aid office and we can discuss reviewing how to best explore funding.

Commonly Asked Questions

What is a Deferral of Payment Request and How do I submit one?

Deferral of payments are allowed until funding is released for students on approved Financial Aid. Once the funding is released to you, please ensure to pay for school costs as soon as possible.

If you are wishing to defer payment as you are on student aid  – please email a copy of your approval letter and email with your request, including your student ID and full name, to FinAidCanada@cityu.edu and billing@cityu.edu and your request will be processed in date order.

Exceptions will be reviewed with the Billing office. If you do not have an award letter yet but have submitted your application or if you have yet to submit an application but would like a deferral of payment exception please contact billing@cityu.edu to discuss options and cc: FinAidCanada@cityu.edu.

6 month financial aid applications: Deferrals for 6 month applications are based on your disbursement schedule, with the expectation that students pay Term 1 with their 1st disbursement and Term 2 with their 2nd disbursement.

One year financial aid applications:

Please note that deferrals for 1 year applications are based on your disbursement schedule, with the expectation that students pay for Term 1 and Term 2 of their application from the first disbursement. Term 3 and Term 4 would be from their second disbursement.

All Students: Please ensure that you review your award amounts, disbursement dates, school costs and budgets to distribute your funding evenly for each term. Please contact the Billing Office for more information on Deferrals: billing@cityu.edu
